TERENCE is a three year long project for the design and development of the first Adaptive Learning System (ALS) for poor comprehenders, hearing and deaf, and for their educators. TERENCE aims at offering innovative usability and evaluation guidelines, pedagogical models, AI technologies, and an ALS for reasoning about stories, in Italian and in English.

Dr. Barbara Arfé is researcher and assistant professor in Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Padova. She obtained her PhD in Developmental Psychology at UniPD in 2003. In 1999 she was the co-author and recipient of a grant for the project “The linear and the hypermedia story”.

Barbara Szepesi Szucs

Barbara Szepesi Szucs graduated as a graphic designer and illustrator at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design of Budapest in 2012. She is specialized in children's book illustration. Her diploma work was an interactive book for children which she wrote, designed and illustrated. She works at MOME Creative Technology Lab as a graphic designer. Her special interest is in using new media to extend the experience of reading.

Dr. Magali Boureux is a postdoctoral fellow in University of Verona, Italy. After her master's degree in French Teaching as foreign language of University of Toulouse, France, she obtained a PhD in Linguistic sciences from the University of Toulouse, France and in Cognitive Sciences from the University of Padua, Italy in 2006.

Caraman Dorothea

Dorothea Caraman received her master degree in Communication Science from the Communication University of Bucharest, Romania, and she obtained her academic degree in Moral and Political Philosophy with a major in advanced theoretical science.
Since 2007 she has joined SIVECO Romania, in Bucharest, where she has worked for both eHealth projects, and eLearning projects. Currently she is a Project Manager in the eLearning R&D Unit, coordination national and international projects co-financed by the European Commission in collaboration with national and international bodies in the framework of European Union programs.

 

Cofini Vincenza

Dr. Vincenza Cofini was born in Avezzano (AQ), 19 july 1967. she is currently a researcher on medical statistics at the University of L'Aquila. After her academic degree in statistical sciences of University “La Sapienza” of Rome, she obtained a ph.d. in medical statistics and methodological epidemiology, and a master's degree in epidemiology at the University of L'Aquila. From 2002 to 2005, she worked at faculty of medicine and surgery of the University of L’Aquila, actually she works at Faculty of Psychology of the University of L’Aquila.

Gennari Rosella

Dr. Rosella Gennari is an Assistant Professor at the KRDB research centre. After her degree in Mathematics at the Pavia University in 1995, she graduated in the Masters of Logic at the ILLC of Amsterdam University in 1998. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at the ILLC in 2002. After her PhD, Gennari was appointed post-doc ERCIM fellow at CWI, Amsterdam, in 2002, and 3-year post-doc fellow at the Automated Reasoning Systems division of FBK-irst, Trento, in 2002.

She has a background in communication, holds an Msc in industrial Design Engineering, and spent 2 years studying product-service-system design at Politecnico di Milano. She has gained experience in project management across various countries and research topics, focusing mostly on co-design development of interaction with product-systems and environments.

Levorato Chiara

 Prof. M. Chiara Levorato is full professor of Developmental Psychology. She works on the acquisition and development of text comprehension. Levorato defined a test that was standardised for 3-8 olds in Italy: TOR 3-8 (Levorato M.C. and Roch, M. 2007). .

Marenzi Ivana

Throughout her career Ivana Marenzi has specialised in the relationship between technology and communication. After her initial experiences in the University of Pavia, she joined the L3S Center, University of Hannover as part of her Ph.D program on the interplay between CLIL (Content and Language integrated Learning) and Web 2.0.

Moens Marie-Francine

Prof. dr. Marie-Francine Moens is a research professor (BOF-ZAP) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. She received a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1999 from this university. She leads the Language Intelligence and Information Retrieval (LIIR) group at K.U.Leuven. Her main research interests regard text based information retrieval, text mining and natural language understanding. She is author of two monographs published by Springer and numerous articles in proceedings of international conferences and journals.

Oakhill Jane V.

Jane Oakhill is Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Sussex. She worked briefly as a primary (elementary) school teacher, and her interest in children’s reading comprehension problems led to a D.Phil. on that topic. Since completing her D.Phil. she has worked on various research projects (including deductive reasoning in children and adults, circadian variations in human performance, and adult language comprehension) but has always maintained a research interest in children’s reading comprehension (in particular, individual differences).

Ruttkay Zsófia

Zsófia Ruttkay is Associate Professor at MOME Media Institute, and founder and Head of the Creative Technology Lab. She has an MA in applied mathematics and PhD in Computer Graphics. She has spent over 25 years in academic research and university education, of which two decades in the Netherlands. She has been interested in the application of computing technology for novel interfaces.

Sue Sullivan

Dr Susan Sullivan has worked as a Developmental Researcher and Lecturer for a number of years, examining the development of social understanding and its relationship to language in pre-school and school-aged children, and how social understanding changes in adulthood and old age. She has experience of working with deaf and hard of hearing children and adults, and is proficient in the use of British Sign Language.

Dr. Sara Tonelli graduated at the University of Bergamo in 2000 in Foreign Languages and Literatures. After her graduation, she spent two years at the University of Munich attending a specialization course on Computational Linguistics. From 2003 to 2006 she collaborated with the University of Venice, Dep. of Language Sciences, working on the development of the Venice Italian Treebank, on anaphora resolution and textual entailment.
